Well, of course, you know that there are TONS of reasons why I have the best job ever. But this morning was a huge reminder of that…coming on the heels of a fairly stressful week.
I got a lovely smack in the face – a very sweet reality check – a heartmelting attitude adjuster.
Most of you know that I was sick this past week…just a nasty cold, but I certainly whined enough on Facebook and Twitter to leave little doubt that I was miserable for a few days! Since I, like everyone, have scads of things to do in preparation for Christmas, I was frustrated and cranky about being waylayed. I know that my patience threshold was at an ebb, and by late yesterday afternoon I was a bit more curt with Liam than I should have been.
He was just being three – yapping happily and entertaining himself while I dragged him on errands. He was having a hard time remembering to be quiet, and I remonstrated him repeatedly…and finally just snapped at him. I know it hurt his feelings, and we both apologized right away. There were no tears, but I felt badly about it. I was just tired, congested and cranky, and that’s no excuse.
At four this morning, Liam came into our bedroom – which almost NEVER happens unless something is up. He climbed up quietly, snuggled in and since Brian and I barely heard him, we all just went back to sleep. Pretty soon, though, we realized that we had a little human heater between us – Liam had a fever.
Don’t worry - we got up, took his temperature and got some Tylenol in him. He’s much better now and playing busily with his trains. I took some photos this morning and made notes about what happened after , which you’ll see below.
I think they more than illustrate why I have the best job ever.
I’m grateful to be here with him every day – because even the bad days are still wonderful.
**The “sandwich art” was inspired by the great gallery of ideas at Funky Lunch. So creative, and so much fun – I can’t wait for the book to come out! Now, granted – his are MUCH nicer…but then, this was a spur of the moment design…and I’m just using a paring knife and whatever food is on hand.
***That was an unsolicited, completely spontaneous and wholly non-compensated free plug for Funky Lunch. Trust me – nobody gives me anything! If anyone WANTED to, however, I totally wouldn’t mind…just sayin’…
