Liam and Santa: A Retrospective…

Christmas 2006 - 8 months. At first, we thought we'd bag the trip to see Santa. Liam handled the Christmas Card Photo Shoot at home like a pro. "No worries, Mama & Daddy. I got this. We don't need no stinkin' Santa..."

But of course, being new parents, we caved and took him to see the big guy. Liam wasn't at all sure that he was the REAL Santa. If he had been able to talk at 8 months, I'm pretty sure there would have been an interrogation in full swing. The kiddo was decidedly underwhelmed...

2007 came, and we trucked on over to see Santa once again. Liam gave him the thumbs up because Santa read him a story. Mama gave him a thumbs up because Santa finished the story, even though the elves had already gotten their photo. Nice job, Santa!

2008 rolled around, and Liam had on his game face. He wore this Santa hat EVERYWHERE, all season long. I really do think he was trying to out-Santa Santa. And yes...THIS is the photo that made the Christmas Cards...

I actually felt sorry for the 2008 Santa. I mean, look at this photo - Liam is may as well have just said "I'm gunning for your job, old man!" ...how often do you see a photo with Santa in which Santa himself looks superfluous...?

And here we are...back to Christmas present. Today, in fact. While VERY nice, this Santa obviously spent less on his suit than did the Santas of years past, and he had more of a "Trucker who Dips Snuff" than the "Jolly Old Elf" thing going. I'm pretty sure Liam thinks he's got it in the bag now...just a matter of time before he moves into the Castle up North and takes control of the Workshop...
