Weekday Beachin’

Brian had a dentist appointment this morning.

What does that have to do with the Beach, you ask? Well, I’ll tell you.

We have a child who ADORES his Father. I mean, Mama is great and all, but DADDY hung this kid’s sun, moon and stars. (This fact thrills me no end – and, it’s a mutual admiration society between the boys, which is even better.) So, when Daddy stopped back by the house for something before heading out to work…Liam was expecting him to stay. Matter of fact, he ORDERED him to stay.

(Darn near broke Brian’s heart to leave. You should have seen them. *sigh*)

So, I had to think of some really great distraction, QUICK, to avoid total meltdown at seeing Daddy drive away. First thing that came to mind was a picnic lunch at the beach!

Now, thanks to our close proximity to the Chesapeake Bay, this is not as great an undertaking as you might think. Within a half hour I had lunch packed in a cooler, bathing suits on, sunscreen slathered and toys & chairs loaded in the wagon. We were off on the two block stroll to the sand!

I love our Beach…it’s located in the neighborhood, so we don’t get many tourists. On weekdays, there are only a few other folks around, so you get a nice wide berth around your “camp”. It was great – we munched our sandwiches and cucumber slices happily. We made a sandcastle. We looked for shells for Daddy.

And I was reminded yet again how blessed I am to be a Stay at Home Mom. The extras we could have if I were still working can be measured and quantified…and ultimately done without. Times like these cannot. They are timeless, priceless and precious.

    Precious pictures!

I am so jealous that you have a beach in your neighborhood! I grew up with one and didn't appreciate what I had. Now I need to drive 4 hours to get to one. Youth is wasted… :)

Ahh, the joys of VAB. Wish my kids liked the beach a little more!

And, you're right, being a SAHM is great, except when your kids spills a whole bag of chocolate chips on the floor and then proceeds to sit in the middle of them and try to eat them as fast as possible and her bother enters the fray, falls over something and lands right in the pile too, rolls over and starts shoving them in his mouth as fast as possible too. Oh, and you needed to be out the door 5 minutes ago….:)

I agree that the flexibility is a huge benefit of being a stay-at-home mom. Love the photos, too!
